Female Thinning Hair
Women who experience female thinning hair are often living in a state of constant anxiety and depression. This stands to reason, as the estimated 25-30% of women affected with thinning hair are losing a very important part of their physical identity. After all, thinning hair is far more devastating for a woman than it is for a man. A man can confidently sport a ball cap, shave his head, or just say "screw it" and go for the "distinguished look." But in accordance with society's ideals, women do not have these same escape routes.
It's a sad truth, but a truth nonetheless. Fortunately now, more than ever, female thinning hair treatments are available at every turn. Depending upon your hair loss type, the answer could be as simple as consuming more iron. Here are a few additional female thinning hair solutions to consider:
- Laser therapy. This can be a bit spendy, but many women have received favorable results. There are actually centers where you can go to receive laser treatment. The machine used is called the Revage 670 and can cost $3000 to $5000 for a year's worth of treatment. Another option is to use a laser comb at home. You can get the Hairmax Laser Comb for $495, with the option to make three $175 payments.
- Minoxidil treatment. Minoxidil is a topical solution that was originally designed as a blood pressure medication. One of the side effects of this medicine was excessive hair growth! Minoxidil has since been very successfully utilized as a hair growth product. A 2% solution is recommended for female thinning hair. Though minoxidil is the only FDA topical solution clinically proven to regrow a woman's hair, it does come with one big flaw. It does nothing to address the root cause of female pattern hair loss. Therefore, it is a temporary solution. Once you discontinue use of minoxidil, your hair begins to thin once again.
- DHT blockers. The primary cause of female pattern hair loss is the hormone dihydrotestosterone, better known as DHT. This nasty hormone binds to your hair follicles, choking the life out of them, eventually causing them to thin and disappear. A DHT blocker is invaluable in stopping female thinning hair dead in its tracks! The only drug prescribed to block DHT is finasteride, marketed as Propecia. Unfortunately, this drug is not intended for women. However, there are some natural alternatives that are perfectly fine for women. Please do NOT overlook the importance of taking a good DHT blocker!
